SWEET SIXTEEN FOR GEORGE

George won the World Championship Title for the sixteenth time after another superb display in San Antonio, Texas.

The Championships attracted 750 of the world's top clay shooters, but George was not intimidated, determined as he was to upgrade the silver medal he won last year to a gold.

The competition took place over two days and each day consisted of two layouts, with 100 targets on each layout.

George took to the Winchester/Browning Course on the first day, with the Beretta Course coming on the second day.

The Beretta Course was shooting lower than the Winchester/Browning, so George needed a big score on the opening day and he did not disappoint, shooting 97/100, four more than any of his competitors.

On the second day, difficult conditions made the going tough, but George persevered and finished with 94/100.

George had 191/200 overall, but fellow Brit Jamie Brightman was not far behind on 190/200, with American Brandon Powell on 188.

There were 25 targets in the final, none of which were under 60 yards away. This and the fact the shoot was being held in floodlit conditions made the targets very tough indeed.

After the first stand, the group was whittled down to just Powell, Brightman and George and the trio moved into the second stand, an especially difficult selection consisting of 13 targets, half of them nearly 70 yards.

Jamie shot nine and Brandon 10. George took his position and shot a perfect round, 13/13.

Needing just two more to claim gold, George moved onto the final eight clays and got what he required in his first two shots.

George had won the World Championships by five clear targets, with Brandon taking silver and Jamie bronze.

A fantastic result for George - sweet 16!
