GEORGE SEALS GOLD IN LATVIA

George added another gold medal to his trophy cabinet over the weekend of the 26-27th June by winning the latest World Cup event: the Latvian Grand Prix.

George participated in the event at the Viesaki shooting range due to his inability to make the Cyprus Grand Prix in April.

The volcanic ash that brought much of Europe to a standstill in that month left George stranded in Barbados, meaning he had to make up for lost time at Viesaki.

He explained: "You haven't got to go to every single Grand Prix, but you have to take part in a certain amount to qualify for the World Cup series.

"I missed Cyprus, which was the equivalent in the World Cup series of the Latvian shoot, so I had to make it up somewhere, and with the World Championships in three weeks time, I needed to get it in quickly.

"Once I missed Cyprus, the only events that were available to me were Portugal - which I couldn't make as I am already committed on that weekend - Latvia, and next weekend is the Spanish Grand Prix. But I don't need to go to Spain now because I shot a good enough score in Latvia."

After Cyprus, George participated in the Clay Shooting Classic in England, where bad weather put paid to his hopes of gold, but he was back on-song in Latvia.

He shot an almost perfect round on the first day, finishing with 92 clays, two in front of his nearest competitor. And he took this form into day two, eventually finishing with a final score of 184, winning by six clays.

Next up are two World Championship events, firstly in England and then in Italy: "We've got the World English Sporting Championship, which is at the RAF base at Lakenheath in Suffolk, and then the World FITASC Championships in Arezzo, which is in the Florence/Tuscany region of Italy.

"They've put both disciplines - which are sort of similar, and quite a lot of people shoot both, I being one of them - so close to each other so the Americans, Australians and people that travel from the far-reaching countries, can come and do two events on one trip."
