George disappointed by SPOTY omission

George was disappointed to have been missed off the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award for 2011, but extends his congratulations to all the sportspeople who have been nominated.

Dai Greene, Andy Murray, Amir Khan and Andrew Strauss are among those included on the list, and George is looking forward to watching the show on Thursday 22nd December, despite his omission.

"The Sports Personality of the Year is one of those great nights on the British sporting calendar," he said. "It's always enjoyable tuning in and seeing the best in British sporting achievement.

"I am disappointed not to have been included on the list, especially after what I consider to be one of my best-ever seasons, but I won't let it get me down.

"I extend my congratulations to all the nominees and hope the best sportsman wins."

George has enjoyed a hugely successful year in 2011 and in a previous interview told us that he thinks it'll be hard beating his achievements over the last 12 months next year.

"I would have to say that in my view I've probably had my best season ever. For me it's been a phenomenal year," he said.

"I've won all over the world, starting in New Zeland and finishing up with a record score at the British Open. I think next year's going to be quite a difficult year. It's going to be hard to top it."
