GEORGE CLAIMS NINETEENTH WORLD TITLE

George picked up another trophy over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend as he claimed his nineteenth world championship title in San Antonio.

In the scorching Texas heat, George was on typically sharp form, hitting 95 from his first 100 clays and 97 from the second hundred. He finished with a total of 192/200, which was enough to qualify him for the Super Final, where the top six shots faced off against each other.

Up against Brad Kidd, Cory Kruse, Mike Wilgus, Byron Justice and Pat Lieske, George found himself in a fierce battle in the 25-bird shoot-off.

He recorded a tally of 17, putting him second behind Mike Wilgus, who shot a total of 19. However, his previous score was enough to put him out ahead of his competitiors and win the tournament.

He finished with a total of 209, two ahead of Kidd, who took the runners-up spot, and Wilgus who won bronze.

After his win, George said: "This is a fantastic win for me that continues what's been a great 2011 so far.

"I've been really happy with how I've shot this year, especially as it's been such a hectic few months.

"I've been to New Zealand, South Africa and now the US, so I'm happy I've been able to stave off jetlag, keep my concentration and remain focused on winning."

In the past, George has had kind words to say about the shooting establishements in South Africa and Russia, and he was also impressed with how the sport is getting on in the United States.

"They've got a fantastic set-up here and the layout they had in San Antonio was fantastic. The brilliant weather didn't hurt either!

"This was a really tight tournament with a tense final, and that shows the level of competition the sport is currently enjoying.

"It can only mean good things for the sport's future - and that's fantastic!"

George would like to say a big thank you to Larry Feland in Houston who mended my Perazzi fore-end that split during the Triple Classic. He spent all night mending it so George could shoot with it the following day. Thank you Larry.
